Soon after Annie was born, I looked up and my amazing friend Melissa (Melissa Dudek Photography) was in my room, camera in front of her face, capturing these. You see, Annie came surprisingly fast compared to her older brother and of course we were all headed up to the hospital juuuuust in time to get stuck in rush hour AND construction traffic on I65.
At 4 days past my, very accurate, due date I think I was stunned to wake up at 3 AM in real labor. Lucas came at 38 weeks, and so for the past 9 months I had just, wrongfully, assumed our sweet Annie would be early as well. Certainly not late! But late she was. When I woke up I figured we would have some time (I was in labor with Lucas for 28 hours, including being sent home from this same hospital room at 6cm), but we decided to leave for the hospital about 6am after getting ready, packing up, and having my mom come over to stay with sleeping Lucas.
When we arrived our doula (Jeannie Casey) was there waiting for us, and so was my midwife who delivered Lucas (was on call for just another few minutes before my primary midwife was to be on call – so I was happy either way!) I was checked in at 6cm (but again, thought I had a long way to go) and by the time I was taken back to my labor and delivery room and set up (they needed to take my blood to check my platelets), I just spent a little bit of time in labor tub before Annie was born, naturally, at 9:05AM after just 6 hours of labor.
