At the beginning of the summer I had this crazy urge to pick up a film camera again. It’s been on my ‘to do’ list for years, but things always push their way to the front when you’re running a business and a family (or, a toddler is running you). Finally, I took the plunge and a few months ago began shooting a bit during my sessions with film as well, just for fun.
Now here’s the really funny part. I’ve held onto 5 rolls of film since June because I was too nervous to send them off to a professional lab. What if I remembered absolutely nothing from my film days over 10 years ago? What if I had perfected my digital look, but my film scans came back and I hated them? What if I jumped the gun in signing up for a 2013 Film Is Not Dead workshop without having shot a roll of film in over 10 years. I am happy to report that my obsessing over this was unfounded and I am incredibly thrilled with those 5 rolls that came back to me last week. These are straight scans from the lab, I haven’t had the time (or desire really, I love them!, to mess with them any in photoshop)
Here’s a little share from one session in particular, more to come I am sure!
What does this mean for my clients? Well, you just might find me slinging an extra camera at your wedding or session and have some film shots given to you as a bonus, but no, I am not giving up my digital gear any time soon. <3
