As I look back at the whirlwind of 2011, more specifically the past 6 months or so, I am truly humbled and grateful for the direction my life has taken. The wedding segment of Jenny Cruger Photography has literally been exploding, so much so that I am starting to have to turn brides away for 2012 and have already begun booking 2013. As I celebrate my 5 year wedding and my 12 year dating anniversaries with my high school sweetheart this year, I can honestly say that I am just as excited for all of the details in my clients’ weddings as when I was planning my own. (And can I just say that I want to redo our wedding again so I can incorporate all of the cool things ya’ll are doing these days!?)
2012 will be a year of exciting things for Jenny Cruger Photography with a workshop this Spring (details here), working closely with Clickin Moms as one of their Clickin Moms Pros to unveil some exciting things over the next few months, a personal photography project (ummm that I am 3 days behind on…), and continuing with online mentoring as well. As usual I will also be taking a limited number of birth, newborn, baby/child, and family sessions each month with a mix of weddings this year as well.
As we say goodbye to 2011 and hello to 2012 I think I can say that 2011 brought some amazing things to be thankful for. I’ve become best friends with a few fellow photographers near me (and some far!). With some I have opened a studio in historic downtown Franklin that I am loving for my sweet little tiny clients and bridal meetings, with some I have attended workshops and shared a room and my heart with, with some I have truly learned what it is to be a better person based on their example, and with some I just count myself lucky to know. Late night business chats, girl’s nights, coffee “meetings”, shooting together, learning together, growing together…I love it all and love that I can share a part of this business with some of the greatest friends ever. I have watched my little man grow from this tiny toddler to this tiny little child who has full conversations with us. He will be starting a Reggio-Emilia based school this February when he turns 2 1/2 and I think that will bring great things for him (and myself – 2 FULL days a week to work!) I’m amazed every day at how imaginative he is and his eagerness to learn new things is astounding. I have realized I love my husband just as much as I did 12 years ago when we began this crazy journey together, and I am thankful every day for his support and those nights where he goes to bed without me while I am up editing sessions. I’m thankful he can cook. And clean. And be an amazing father to our son. For our parents who are always there for us and are always eager to take their grandson on some crazy adventure!
For 2012 that leaves ME to work on. 2012 will be a year where I actually get my bum to the gym. Long gone are the days where I could do nothing, eat anything, and weigh 100 lbs. But maybe I can get close again. In addition to my regular vegan diet, I will be cooking a lot from my favorite cookbooks from Happy Herbivore and following the brilliant nutritional advice from one of the most amazing doctors alive today, Dr. McDougall. My goal is to visit the rec center at least 4 times per week (where you’ll either find me in yoga class or on the elliptical) and severely limit eating out to avoid added fats. The best part is? I know it works when I am not lazy and actually cook!
I hope to share not only my clients with you in 2012, but also my personal journey! And because blog posts are pretty useless without photos…here is one of my favorites from the first session of 2012!
